Miadhu News:The dismissed Deputy Leader of the main opposition Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) has been removed from the party’s registry by the Elections Commission on request of DRP.
The President of the Elections Commission, Fuad Taufeeg confirmed to Miadhu Daily that Umar has been officially removed from DRP’s registry.
Fuad said that the commission sent a letter of confirmation to DRP announcing the removal of Umar Naseer.
Opposition DRP said that Umar has been sacked from the party from December 18, 2010 after getting no appeal from him in the period of 15 days after the decision of the DRP disciplinary committee to remove him.
Despite the announcement of the Elections Commission on the removal of the dismissed DRP Deputy Leader Umar from the party, the founding
Leader of DRP and former President of Maldives Maumoon Abdul Gayoom expressed his discontent with the party’s decision saying that it is against the charter of DRP.
Umar Naseer said that he is preparing to file the case of his removal in the court. He added that he has now initiated talks with his legal team.
He also said that he will continue his work as a Deputy Leader of DRP despite his membership removal from the party’s registry by the Elections Commission.
“I will still use the letter head of the party as the Deputy Leader of the party. The reason is that the founding Leader has acknowledged my status as the Deputy Leader of DRP,” he said.
