ADDU, MALDIVES - Football Association of Maldives president,Ali Azim has elected to a seat of Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s executive committee.After being elected to the seat speaking to the media Ali Azim thanked FAM’s executive committee members for their support and encouragement. He also noted FAM’s general secretary, Shah Ismail for his continuous support.
Azim got the highest number of votes for the three posts from the south central zone. Azim had 27 votes, Patel (India) got 26 and Makhdoom (Pakistan) got 24. Other candidates were Sardor Rakhmatullaev, of Uzbekistan (22 votes) and Suhrob Qosimov, of Tajikistan (nine votes). The voting was carried out regionally with each of the four zones delivering three members.
“We had to had close relations with the other football federations and it was a huge effort put up by the team in FAM. I want to congratulate Azim for his election”
Meanwhile, AFC’s match commissioner of the year, Abdul Hameed Abdul Ghafoor (Addo) who is in Doha for the Asian Cup, congratulated Azim for his success.
Maldives Olympic Committee’s general secretary Ahmed Marzooq (Marey) congratulated Azim.
“First of all, I would like to congratulate Azim for the success. We should have done it long time back. We are the best or the second best team in the region and for us to go to the next level, we need to be in that seat”
“But we should not behave like other countries that filled the seat. We have been pin pointing the people who filled the seats of their blunders. I have the belief Azim would not allow those mistakes as he is a sportsman himself.”
VB’s manager, Satho said that it was a huge privilege for a small island nation like Maldives to be in the football governing body of the region.
“We are a small island nation and it is a huge privilege for us to be in the governing body of the region. We, the management of VB want to congratulate Azim for the success”
